San Miguel de Salinas is an inland town in the Vega Baja del Segura area, between Torrevieja and the Region of Murcia, and the highest-altitude municipality in the comarca. Its population reached 7,177 in 2025 (6,662 in the 2021 census, split almost evenly between men and women). The 54 km2 municipality descends from the hills to El Llano, the plain where the area's salt lakes sit -- giving the town its name.
